P.S. 188 is a nurturing and supportive community of learners. Our teachers and staff create this exceptional environment. You will find shiny, clean hallways adorned with student artwork and the sounds of happy children learning. The parents of PS 188 have built one of the strongest PTA’s in northeastern Queens. In fact, 65% of the PTA budget goes directly to School Support and a whopping half of that supports the Arts Program in the school.

The PTA has over 40 committees dedicated to enriching the P.S. 188 community. The PTA encourages all parents to be involved in their child’s school experience. Whether you work inside or outside of the home or even if you have a lot or little time to give, there are plenty of ways for parents to participate. The most valuable component of our PTA is the time and energy our volunteers give of them selves. We are thankful for the invaluable help and support of our PTA members and we welcome all to the team! In fact, all parents and guardians of P.S. 188 students are members – automatically!

When school is in session, the children’s home folders are tool for communication. Check them daily for flyers promoting PTA programs and activities so you don’t miss the fun.

The PTA conducts monthly general meetings in the evening and offers a recap morning meeting to accommodate those parents not available in the evening. These meetings feature a presentation from our Principal, our Parent Coordinator and from a parent representative from the School Leadership Team. There are many opportunities to be a part of the fun, the planning and to share your ideas at P.S. 188.

The PTA Executive Board is made up of eight parent volunteers who help serve as Committee Managers as well as chair their own committees to continue to move the good work of our PTA forward. These are a few of our favorite things … Stop, Drop & Go, Recess Committee, Shopping Events, School Pictures, Family Nights, Cultural Arts, Field Day, Graduation, Kindergarten Orientation, Younger Sibling Play Dates, Box Tops, Staples Recycling Program, Staff Appreciation Luncheon and the annual Spring PTA Dinner.

MEMBERSHIP

Early in the school year, every P.S.188 family will receive a PTA membership envelope. By filling out the information on the envelope you become a member. Contribution and donations to the PTA are optional but greatly appreciated. All donations benefit our children. You can join the PTA at anytime during the school year.
